Free. You give no details to download, and the plugin never uploads anything.
- Install. In Zotero: Tools → Plugins → gear icon at the top right → “Install Plugin From File…” → pick the downloaded file.
- Open. Tools → “Convert Citavi document…”. Pick or drop your Word file. The report shows what CiteMove found.
- Enter your pass. When you click “Convert”, CiteMove asks for your key. You get it by e-mail after buying.
- Refresh in Word. Open the new file, click Refresh in the Zotero tab, pick your citation style. Done.

System requirements
- Zotero
- Zotero 7 or newer, with the Word add-in installed (it ships with Zotero).
- Word
- Microsoft Word, file saved as .docx. LibreOffice and Google Docs are not supported.
- Your document
- The citations must have been inserted with the Citavi Word Add-in. Tested with documents from Citavi 6. The free check tells you whether your file is recognised.
- Operating system
- Tested on Mac. Windows test coming. The plugin is not tied to an operating system.
- Internet
- Only for the download and once to activate your pass. After that CiteMove checks the pass online before converting; without a connection, converting still works for 14 days. Your document is never transmitted.
Updates and security
Zotero checks regularly whether a new version of CiteMove is available and installs it. You can see your version under Tools → Plugins, where you can also switch automatic updates off.
The plugin processes your file on your computer only. The one connection it makes is the check of your licence key with our payment provider. Exactly what is sent is described in the privacy policy.
